I would like to lead with #COULSONLIVES! WOOOOOOT!
What? I like Coulson. Don’t lie. You do too.
After the atrocity that was Iron Man 3, this television show was Marvel’s chance to redeem themselves and wow the world once more like they had with The Avengers.
Obviously, they had the limitations brought with television, but if the material is well done, it is no hindrance.
With that, I was able to keep an open mind. All of the commercials that ABC studios put out eased this, especially with the fact that…COULSON LIVES! Yeah, Phil, first name Agent, Coulson lives
Alright alright. I am going to that aside. Now, let me warn my audience that this will have spoilers sprinkled in here. I will try to withhold as much as I can in case you have not watched it, but it will happen. I will still do my best though.
The concept of The Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. was simple enough. Humans of a secret government organization living in, as they call: “The New World.”
This show not only points out that it happens after the incident in New York, but it is heavily integrated in Disney’s Marvel universe.
At a quick glance, this show was really well done. Without revealing too much about the plot of the show, I feel that Coulson not only steals the show, he commands it.
This show, as well as Coulson, takes six individuals that no one could care about in the beginning and makes this team give a face, as well as heart, to the faceless S.H.I.E.L.D.
The reason why that is so important is because for three films, S.H.I.E.L.D. just seemed like a mysterious forth that was just at Nick Fury’s beck and call. But showing the human aspect and giving the audience something to see seemed difficult. It was done so well though.
I felt it was so important because it was just ominous throughout PHASE 1 of the Marvel universe when I know the audience wanted to know more.
The personal touch was something I truly appreciated. For example, Agent Wade challenges Coulson, which the audience knows is a mistake, by asking if Coulson would risk nobody for everybody.
And Coulson said the most badass thing of all.
That right there showed the priorities of Phil. It shows that, to him, every battle is personal and that everyone should be saved, not just people who are important. This shows why h is always so teasing, if not abusive, to Tony Stark.
Really, this show has it all: One liners, compassion, hope, link to a larger, movie, universe. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gives its audience something to watch and something to look forward to.
It’s only true weakness is also its greatest strength. It’s focus almost completely consists of focusing on Coulson. I love him as much as the next guy, but still. I want to know about each character. It might be a small complaint, but it is mine to make. Agents was quite strong and its one small flaw was just that: a small flaw.
One thing I know for sure is Agents gives me something to do on my Tuesdays as it takes me and everyone else into a New World.
