ConReview: Bak-Anime 2017

The 9th Annual Bak-Anime Convention was held at the Kern County Fair Grounds. The event is at this location for the first time moving from the Marriot Hotel. With the move, the event has increased in size. The dealer room is more than 3 times the size that it was, all gaming areas have also doubled in size. The event took place in 2 of the buildings of the fairgrounds. Parking was $5 on Saturday and free on Sunday.

Food, Food is always a concern, usually not enough nearby. This waws not the case they had 3 food vendors, most notable was Okamoto Kitchen, a Japanese Comfort food truck from Southern California. The Pork Shoulder Tator Tots were delish.

There was plenty of outside seating with great weather the entire weekend.

Saturday highlights David Yost, Karan Ashley, Walter Jones of the Power Rangers were on hand to sign autographs and do a Q & A panel.

Great costume contests both days with the Children’s only contest on Sunday.

Sunday they had Kpop dance lessons which were great to watch to figure out how some of the moves are done.

Special Guests were Vic Mignogna, Cherami Leigh, and Danielle McRae. Each guest had a panel each day. I would have to give Vic the win on a standing room only to a full panel room Saturday. As for Autographs, the lines were longer than the food lines by 4 times. I would give Cherami the win for the longest autograph line.

I love the mix of folks from the Central Valley and Southern California that attended the weekend. Bak-Anime is already on my list for next year. The new dates are Feb 3-4 2018.

I took picture of all the great cosplays here are some of the pictures from the event. More pictures soon.
