On Father’s Day, 2018 I had the privilege to attend Sinister Creature Con. The venue was at the Scottish Rite Center over on H street in Sacramento (home to many local cons that hold many memories for the local cosplay community) and featured a bevy of vendors, celebrities, and amazing costumes!
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Berryman (famed of The Hills Have Eyes, and my personal favorite, The Devil’s Rejects) as well as Carel Struycken (known on Twin Peaks, The Addams Family as Lurch). Other talent included names such as Linda Blair (The Exorcist), C Thomas Howell (Criminal Minds, The Punisher, The Hitcher), Lisa Wilcox (Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5) and Tyler Mane (X-Men, RZ Halloween).
There were also amazing makeup artists on hand such as Face Offs Nora Hewitt, Keaghlan Ashley, Margaret Caragan, Chloe Sens, Melissa Ebbe and Eric Fox. Guests had the opportunity to see these artists work first hand in a fantastic display of gore and glitter.
The convention boasted 3 vendors rooms with oodles of creepy crawly goodness. Goods ranged from jewelry to art to local haunted houses and fan groups. Local film Grunk the Smasher had a booth, the Ghostbusters were there and Heartstoppers Haunted House had an amazing set where guests could step into a scene right out of a movie.
The costume contest featured some of the best cosplays this side of the dark realm with the grand prize going to the creepiest Pennywise I’ve ever seen. All of the contestants brought their A-game and there were smiles (some dripping with blood) all around. The little baby Wednesday Addams stole the show!
If you missed out on the event, don’t fret, they are set to return October 13th and 14th at the same location. Mark your calendars, pick out your costumes and prepare to embrace the morbid, the gory and the gruesome. That’s all, for now, my ghouls and gals, hope to see you at the next celebration of the things that go bump in the night 😉
