We finally get to now who some of the new characters for Star Wars: The Force Awakens are, thanks to an exclusive for EW by J.J. Abrams, and Kathleen Kennedy. They decided to release them in the form of classic Topps Trading Cards, like that were produced for the original 1977 Star Wars movie. Topps had made 5 sets of card for the movie, each of which was a different color. Just like then the new mock cards are starting with red series ( 3 of the new cards are done this way) and the blue series ( the other 5 new mock cards are done this way). The captions on the cards are supposed to, “give a hint about the state of mind of the characters”. When J.J. Abrams was asked about if their is significance of the card numbers, he said: “Yes.” He also said, “I’m only sorry we couldn’t give everyone a stick of gum.” With only 8 cards done so far there is hope that with all the other characters left unknown, and 3 more original card color sets not used, that we will see more of these in the future as there s still plenty of time between now and the Dec. 18, 2015 release date.
