Just who is going to take up the sonic screwdriver and the TARDIS after Peter Capaldi (Paddington 2 and In the Loop) has been the question on every Whovian’s mind in the last couple of days. Wait no more for it has been revealed! Jodie Whittaker (Journeyman and Attack the Block) will be the Thirteenth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’! It’s certainly a momentous occasion as Whittaker will be the first female actor to take on the role of the Time Lord…or is that Time Lady now?
Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch and Camelot) the new head writer and executive producer of the series says, “I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away. Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role. The 13th Doctor is on her way.”
“I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey – with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”, Whittaker said on inheriting the keys to the blue box that’s bigger on the inside.
I’m very excited to see that the next regeneration of the Doctor is a woman but I can also see now it may divide opinion and perhaps even split the fandom with how significant the change is. With that I just say…wait…watch…and decide with an open mind. But I’m quite confident that it’s all going to be quite brilliant! My only complaint in all this is that I wish they would have revealed it all during the Christmas Special, because it always felt like getting a bonus present by doing that. What’s your thoughts on the big announcement? What are you hoping to see in the next adventures of the Doctor? Let us know?[Source: BBC]
