Were you still on the fence about the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch (Jungle Book: Origins and Sherlock) as Marvel‘s Doctor Strange? So was I, but now that Entertainment Weekly has shown us our first look of the actor as the good doctor…I’m pretty much sold! Directed by Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us from Evil and Sinister), it stars Cumberbatch as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sorcerer Supreme with which costars Tilda Swinton (Okja and Hail, Caesar!), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight and True Detective), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Triple 9 and Secret in Their Eyes), and Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Hannibal). The film itself started shooting in November and won’t be wrapped until sometime around March. So it’s still pretty early on in the process, in fact the actor used the photoshoot to practice the poses he’ll be making as Marvel’s mystic.
“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that,” said Cumberbatch. “It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
I gotta say, from what we can see so far the costume looks pretty legit. What do you think? ‘Doctor Strange’ is set to open in theaters on November 4, 2016.
