Following the recent news about a new Muppets show being pitched by the co-creator of The Big Bang Theory, we now know that ABC liked the idea, and The Muppets are returning to TV.
This video, released on The Muppets’ Facebook page, shows us what to expect. All the familiar old Muppets are back, and even the not at all familiar ones who just appeared briefly in old episodes and movie backgrounds (which they gleefully lampshade).
From the looks of it, the show will be rather meta; it’s about the making of a new Muppet show that follows the lives of the Muppets, in the style of a sitcom like The Office or a reality show. Even Gonzo points out the cheesiness and overuse of some of the familiar tropes, while using those very cliches, as one would expect from The Muppets.
While this is different from previous Muppet shows and movies, it fits in line with the meta-Muppet style from the previous movies (The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted), and looks quite funny so far.
Though the premier air date has yet to be announced, but it’ll be airing on Tuesdays starting this Fall.
