Magic: The Gathering meets Dungeons and Dragons in “Plane Shift: Zendikar”

Two of the biggest Wizards of the Coast properties are finally getting the crossover players have been waiting for. Card game meets tabletop game as Magic: The Gathering gets introduced to Dungeons and Dragons 5e in “Plane Shift: Zendikar.”

“Plane Shift: Zendikar” is intended as a new campaign setting for D&D campaigns, placed within the world of Magic: The Gathering. It’s designed using fifth edition rules, so Magic mechanics such as the various colored Mana and tapping your cards to use them may not apply, but it still takes the familiar characters, creatures, and magic of the game and brings it to a tabletop setting.

Zendikar is already a well-expanded and grown fantasy world, with rich mythos and established characters, so the gameplay mechanics of D&D fit in easily with the setting. In fact, it’s almost a certainty that D&D players have already made campaigns of their own inspired by or set in the world of Magic, but this provides resources to make it completely fleshed-out and Wizards-approved.

You can check out “Plane Shift: Zendikar” on the Wizards of the Coast website, and start rolling up your next character.
