Have you ever wanted to venture forth on your own quest for glory after watching an episode of the immensity popular webseries ‘Critical Role‘? You can now step behind the DM screen of Matt Mercer and run your own adventure in the world of Exandria with the ‘Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount’.
Written in conjunction with Mercer himself this new 304-page source book has already made its way to Amazon‘s best sellers list. Both players and DMs will be able to use the information contained within to craft an adventure set in a conflict between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryrn Dynasty. Will the players be the heralds of a new age of peace or will war consume them all?
While fans of ‘Critical Role’ will definitely want to get their hands on this book, what about folks who aren’t planning on visiting continent of Wildemount? The answer is still a great big Y to the E-S and let me quickly break it down for you.
Players will able to gain access to a whole slew of exotic race options (which includes an official book release of the Tortle race) which had been previous scattered in various releases such as ‘Princes of the Apocalypse’ and ‘Volo’s Guide to Monsters’ but now collected in a single book. In addition, we also get the setting exclusive race of the reborned Hollow Ones.
Then we got three new subclasses for players to try out. There’s the Fighter’s Echo Knight, who are able to shape probability and pull possible timeline versions of themselves to fight along side with. The new Wizard’s magic traditions of the time manipulating Chronurgy and the gravity wielding Graviturgy.
We also get new spells by way of dunamancy, which is a new system of magic that involves controlling the elements of time, gravity, and entropy. Using dunamancy in the world of Exandria or even in your own homebrew will open up some very interesting options.
Now we get to some of the goodies for you Dungeon Masters out there. As we stated before, the continent of Wildemount is laid out for DMs to play in (which also entails a glorious map insert), along with pre-made introduction adventures. For those of you who want to cherry pick and add to their own already existing campaigns, there’s still a lot that can be used as well.
Want some new magical items to reward players with? You can totally check that off the list! This also includes a new system in which certain powerful weapons and tools are able to grow along with a character as they level up.
Need something to throw into combat? Hit those adventurers with a bestiary which consists of the Bristled Moorbounder, Aeorian Nullifier, Horizonback Tortoise, Merrow Shallow Priest, and more.
All that is just the tip of the iceberg. ‘Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount’ has something for all players and DMs across the board. Even those who aren’t planning on running their own Critical Role adventure. You can pick up book for yourself now via online or your favorite retail game store.
