“The Princess Bride” is a classic movie, with all the key attributes of a great epic – characters, combat, traps and dark swamps, wicked villains, and of course, true love. So it only makes sense that it would be made into a roleplaying game.
Toy Vault Inc. has announced the creation of a “Princess Bride” RPG, to be released later this year. It uses the roleplaying game system of FUDGE, created by Steffan O’Sullivan, who has also designed RPG titles such as “GURPS: Swashbucklers” (and as we all know, swashbuckling is a key part of “The Princess Bride”). Toy Vault promises “just the right feel of light-hearted, fantastic adventure that embodies The Princess Bride universe,” with guidelines for running games using the film’s setting and tone.
This isn’t the first “Princess Bride” game released by Toy Vault, although it is the first roleplaying game based on the property. Details regarding the game itself, such as character classes, stats, and creation, have not yet been revealed, but more information will become available as the game is released.
Until then, tabletop gamers will have to make do with making their “D&D” or ”Pathfinder” characters based off Westley. (Mine’s currently a Rogue 3/Fighter 3 with the Swashbuckler and Battle Master archetypes.)
