Tech: FAA Give Amazon Go Ahead For Drone Testing

A while back we told you about Amazon wanting to test drone delivery, and they applied with the FAA to be able to do it outside of their Seattle R&D facility. Looks like the FAA is going to allow them to test their drones, with some stipulations of course as Amazon was awarded a “experimental airworthiness certificate.” The certificate will allow them to test drones up to 400 feet, and the drone must stay within the pilots eye sight. The pilot must have both “a private pilot’s certificate and medical credentials.” The FAA will require reports monthly that will include; “number of flights, pilot time, any issues that arise, if there’s a loss of communication and if the pilot has to deviate from the air traffic controllers’ cues.” Looks like Amazon is one step closer to getting their drone Army.
