The Hungry Gamer Reviews Anachrony

ENTER Anachrony! A game about the end of the world! Thankfully a zombie free end of the world. And as you can imagine it is a game about making sure that humanity survives, and in order to do this, your faction needs to push their cubes around better than the other factions. However, since this is a game about time travel, not only do you push cubes around on your board, and the main board, but you can borrow cubes from the future! Seriously. The future.

The Hungry Gamer Reviews Tzolk’in

One of the more highly anticipated games from 2020 was Pendulum, a game that had a core conceit of time, the longer the worker stays out on the board the more powerful it is. Whether or not that game worked is a different article, but the concept of time being part of the mechanic for the worker placement game had been done previously, and if popular opinion can be believed, had been done very well in Tzolk'in, a game which has been around since 2012.

The Hungry Gamer Previews Zodiac War

Zodiac War is a game for 2-4 players, in which each player takes on the roll of one of the astrological signs: Libra, Scorpio, Cancer, etc. In the game you are manipulating the stars (the board) to line up your signs, with the element associated with your sign. Each time you manage a partial, or perfect alignment you are rewarded with focus. In turn you use this resource to purchase cards, and the ever important crystals which are the end game win condition.

The Hungry Gamer Previews Kingsfall

In Kingsfall each player selects a faction (they are slightly different as each one has a different ability on the tech trees already unlocked. Then each player selects a variety of tiles which they want in the game. The center of the board is set (always the same combo of tiles), and then the players place the tiles they have chosen randomly face down in whatever pattern they like. Then you are ready to go!

The Hungry Gamer Reviews Jurassic Parts

But man, dinosaur bones sure are cool, even if bringing them back to life through ancient DNA in fossilized mosquitos is a bad idea. Luckily for us though, Jurassic Parts puts you in the role of a paleontologist, at what is, perhaps, the biggest dino find this side of a Jeff Goldblum movie collection. Bafflingly the site leader has decided that the best way to collect these incredibly valuable fossils is to turn it into a competition to see who can get the most complete dinosaurs out of the ground.

The Hungry Gamer Reviews Under Falling Skies

If you are lucky enough to be my age then you remember playing Space Invaders in the arcade...or pizza parlor. You also remember seeing Independence Day in the theatre, and thinking it was completely reasonable for Jeff Goldblum to disable the aliens with a Mac. It also means that you are pretty much the target of Under Falling Skies, a solo player mashup of those two glorious bits of nostalgia.

The Hungry Gamer Reviews Guild Master

"Hey Hungry! Wanna play a game? It has a fantasy theme and...oh you are already at the table and waiting." Guilty as charged. If a game has a fantasy theme, I am pretty much always going to be interested in trying it out. So needless to say, when I was asked if I was interested in checking out Guild Master I was game.

The Hungry Gamer Reviews Altar Quest

Dungeon Crawls are my kryptonite. Drop a Dungeon Crawl on Kickstarter and I will at the very least hit the remind me button, and do everything in my power to find a reason not to back it. I love swords & sorcery, monsters & heroes, outlaws & whatever pairs with an outlaw.

The Hungry Gamer Previews Tessera

The more I have reviewed games the more I have found that I crave light, or medium light games on my shelf. This is not to say I prefer them to heavier games necessarily, but I find I spend a lot of time, and effort into making sure that I have rules correct, and learning how to play that sometimes I just want to sit down with my wife and play something quick and easy. Something along the weight of Ticket to Ride, or Splendor.

The Hungry Gamer Previews Mission Catastrophe

In Mission Catastrophe you find yourself on a space ship being battered with asteroids, and you will have to work together to keep the ship from exploding. Of course, the most important thing is to make sure that you get off the exploding ship. What is that? There is only one working escape pod and four other crew members? Stinks to be them!

The Hungry Gamer Previews Burncycle

Chip Theory Games understands what gamers really want. They want a game that can be used for multiple things. In fact I will not even consider playing one of their games any more if I cannot use it as a game, a door stop, a pool toy, and the perfect thing to set up if I every have to defend my home, Home Alone style.

The Hungry Gamer Previews Arkenshield

I really enjoy deckbuilding games. In many ways they give me the vibe of an rpg game, as you are slowly becoming more powerful as you adventure. However, my issue with many deckbuilding games is that though I love that mechanic I do not ever feel like they are filled with a need for said character growth. However, deckbuilders that have that adventurous vibe I love: Battle for Greyport, Clank! in Space, and I have high hopes for the Few and the Cursed. Now Arkenshield promised to be a deckbuilder game where you had to build a party, and march them across the continent to reach a city across the world. Sounds pretty adventurous to me! I am in!
