While DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is hopping through time on television, a different time-traveling hero is making his way to the big screen. Greg Berlanti, the showrunner behind Arrow and The Flash, has confirmed that a Booster Gold film is in the future, with screenwriter Zack Stentz attached to the project.
This news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, during an interview with Berlanti. Berlanti stated: “I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC Property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now.”
Berlanti also mentioned that he’d like to direct the movie, although that has yet to be determined.
Zack Stentz has a few comic book movies to his name, with co-writing credit on X-Men: First Class and Thor, in addition to the aforementioned Flash episode he wrote.
Booster Gold is a time traveling hero from the future, or rather, a janitor who stole superhero gear and a time machine (along with his robot companion, Skeets) and made his way into the past to become a hero. In the comics, he’s been a member of the Justice League International, saved the multiverse in 52, and had a fantastic solo run that explored the history of the DC universe. On TV, he had an episode of Justice League Unlimited dedicated to him (“The Greatest Story Never Told”), and appeared on an episode of Smallville (“Booster”).
But he’s perhaps best known for his friendship with the Blue Beetle, Ted Kord. The blue and the gold made for one of DC’s best buddies, and a Booster Gold movie would be incomplete without Blue Beetle.
Booster Gold may seem a little out of place in the darker, more humorless world of the DC cinematic universe, but he may be just what it needs. Booster is entertaining, brash, and often foolish, yet at the same time inspiring; who else would save the world from threats impacting all of history, yet maintain the illusion that he’s an incompetent glory-hog to do so?
While the only news on a Booster Gold movie so far is that it’s currently being written, there’s much to look forward to. Keep an eye on G33k-HQ for more news as it comes.
