Netflix might have one of television’s best bad guys in House of Cards‘ Frank Underwood, but someone else is going to give him a run for his money.
Netflix has revealed several new images of Daredevil‘s Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio. Along with the pictures there is an outline of Fisk’s character, describing his motivations in the series as to “save” Hell’s Kitchen using criminal means , which brings him in conflict with Matt Murdock/Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) who sees criminals such as Fisk as part of Hell’s Kitchen’s problem.
“Central to this conflict is that Fisk truly believes he’s doing good for Hell’s Kitchen and at times may seem more of a hero to its people than Daredevil. Intelligent, complex and physically imposing, Wilson Fisk is the perfect foil for Matt Murdock, and the two will collide dramatically in Marvel’s Daredevil.”
This sounds like they are giving him an almost Lex Luthor spin, which is a little ironic, but he has been written this way in several iterations of the comic.
In an interview with USA Today, D’Onofrio describes his characer as one whom “in one sentence could easily go from being a child to a monster, depending on where his emotions take him.”
USA Today’s Brian Truitt went on to state that the actor studied comic books to better understand his character. Interestingly enough, D’Onofrio briefly played Thor early on in his career in a brief but pivotal scene in Adventures In Babysitting. For the role as Marvel’s Kingpin, D’Onofrio is said to have added 30 pounds to get into shape for the role.
“I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it’s a major punch,” said D’Onofrio. “There’s a lot of weight behind it.”
Daredevil‘s first season will premire worldwide on Netflix Friday April 10, 2015 at 12:01 AM PT.
