“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has a new storyline ready for season 3, and it’s a doozy. While season 2 introduced Inhumans, the next name we’ll hear is another one familiar to comic readers: Secret Warriors.
In the comics, Secret Warriors is a series featuring Nick Fury and a team of super-powered agents, including Daisy Johnson (Quake), Alexander Aaron (Phobos, son of Ares), and Jerry Sledge (Stonewall) among others. While we can assume that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will not be playing a large roll in this season, we already have Quake, as the events of season 2 revealed that Skye is Daisy Johnson, and an Inhuman.
However, it is likely that these new Secret Warriors will be significantly different than those in the comics. The announcement from Marvel states “Coulson will encounter the Secret Warriors,” indicating that it may not be a team under his command.
The Marvel website states: “In the aftermath of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s battle with Jiaying and the Inhumans, Director Coulson will search the world for more powered people and assemble an extraordinary new team to deal with threats unlike the world has ever seen. However, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will soon find out they’re not the only ones tracking down these new Inhumans.” So the Secret Warriors could be Coulson’s team of powered individuals, or this other unknown team on the hunt for Inhumans.
Given that the promotional image shows the Secret Warriors title over the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo, let’s assume for now that it will be Coulson’s team. And Marvel is giving fans at San Diego Comic-Con a chance to join that team, with limited edition “Secret Warriors” pins to be given to dedicated fans. More information on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Secret Warriors will be revealed there at the “Marvel Television Presents” panel on Friday, July 10.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will return to TV on Tuesday, September 29, and we’ll have more news on season 3 and the Secret Warriors as it’s made available.
