It’s that time of year again! Father’s day is on Sunday (ahem, that’s tomorrow), and if you’re like me, you still haven’t found the perfect gift for the dad in your life. My dad and my spouse both lean to the geeky side and so I thought, in homage to them, I would do up a list of father’s day gift ideas for the geekish dads out there.
Video game system controller (or mouse)
If Dad is a gamer then this is something that likely gets a lot of use and can often need replacement or upgrading. You can find controllers with fun custom prints on them too. Oh, and if he is a gamer, then video games are always a welcomed gift!
Ready Player One
This book takes us to a world where most of life is lived virtually. Add in a ton of 80’s culture references and videogames and it’s the perfect novel for the book worm geeky dad.
Gift Cards for game and app downloads (iTunes, Playstation Network, X-box Live)
You can’t go wrong with this one. Grab a card for whichever platform dad prefers and let them download to their hearts content.
I don’t always love listening to all the geekery that goes on at our place. A great set of headphones is a gift for everyone. And for the gamer in your life, a gaming headset will definitely be appreciated!
If dad is a comic book or graphic novel enthusiast then an egift card to www.comixology.com will be right up his alley. This app lets him read his favorite books right on his tablet.
Official DC Superhero Cookbook
Technically this is a kids cook book but dad will have a blast in the kitchen with the kids cooking up a super feast. This is a great item for encouraging a bit of bonding and I’m pretty sure he’d enjoy the fruits of his labor.
I don’t know why, but these things are all the rage. It’s basically a helicopter with four sets of rotor blades. They fly around. Guys like them. Check Best Buy or Amazon for a starter model.
Geeks like to wear their obsessions on their chests, apparently. Busted Tees can outfit your dad in his favorite super hero, game character or Star Wars images. Check out www.bustedtees.com and get shopping.
Get dad a subscription to Next Issue so he can keep up to date on issues of Wired and Geek (back issues too!) from his tablet.
A gift from ThinkGeek.com
This site is full of hilarious, geeky gift ideas. We made huge smiles at Christmas with some Star Trek bath robes from www.thinkgeek.com. You may also want to check out www.gifts.com and www.thisiswhyimbroke.com.
There you have it. If the dads in your life dabble in geekery then you’re sure to find something on this list to bring them a smile this Father’s Day. Grab them something fun and show them how much they mean to you!
