Last weekend BLAM (Black, Latino, Asian, Manifested) presented AfroComicCon in Oakland. It is one of the Bay Area’s newest events and was held at SAE Expressions College which is centrally located in the East Bay right off Hwy 80. Not only did the venue have its own parking lot, which is rare in the Bay, but also included free parking-always a plus for any event. As with any good con, plenty of vendors and artists filled the venue. Along with all the artists and vendors, there were a number of wonderful panels such as People of Color in Entertainment, Women in Comics, and Women in Entertainment.
It is always great to see familiar talent like James Weston, DaRapNerd – DaRealWordSound and Big Tree Comics. Some of the highlights for me included the Cosplay Costume Contest and The Geek Fashion Show which was the kick off for the after party.
Year one was very well done and look forward to next year’s event. I always love seeing all the creative cosplays. Enjoy some of my photos of the event.
