Culture: Cleveland To Put Up Giant Superman Statue

Cleveland, Ohio is getting a Superman statue to commemorate the city’s very own Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, creators of the iconic character Superman. The statue will be put on an elevated walkway that connects the city’s lakefront to downtown near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The statue will be created by Sculpter David Demming, who has been working on the project for years as part of the “Superman Monument Committee.” The statue is to be made from burnished steel, and will be 12 feet tall from finger to toe. The statue will also be placed on a 30-35 foot “Superman blue” pedestal base. Deming said that:

“I want the pedestal to look crystalline and keep the Superman colors intact…..I would also like the pedestal to be illuminated from the interior.”

He also said:

“It is very important to get the creators of Superman in it”

The base of the monument will also feature life-size statues of Siegel, Shuster, and Siegel’s wife, Joanne Sigel, who was one of the model for Lois Lane, lookinf up at Superman
