EventReview: San Jose Fantasy Faire and Pirate Festival

IMG_4788This past April 9 and 10 was the annual San Jose Fantasy Faire, but this year they added a heavy pirate theme. This was the 5th year for this event in San Jose, but the first time at this new location. The event was rain or shine,  with both days having a mix of rain and shine. Upon entering the event you approach a set castle towers with an archway to walk in, transporting guest to a world of fantasy and pirates.

There were lots of costume characters roaming the event, including Rapunzel, Snow White and the Evil Queen, Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Red Riding Hood and many more.  While walking around you found two stages filled with story tellers and dancers. Many of the groups participating in the faire had some great crossover costumes; such as a pirate Green Lantern and pirate Rocket Raccoon.

Groups of pirates would entertain the guest from by not only your normal pirate shenanigans but also there was a pirate ship that the kids can climb on to, lots of fun pirate games and black powder demos. IMG_4907The mermaids with full tails felt at home in the rain, and would speak with the guests. Sword fighting was everywhere using a variety of swords: real swords to lightsabers to padded boffer swords.

You could partake in lots of great activities including archery and plenty of various games for kids and adults. Each year the San Jose Fantasy Faire gets better with by constantly adding more activities and entertainment. this is a great event for the entire family, I am looking forward to next years event. For more fun this summer, the park also plays host to the San Jose Renaissance Faire August 6-7, 2016.
