I recently spent part of a Saturday at our annual Rendezvous. I arrived just moments before the Civil War reenactment battle began. It really took me to a time that ended up being a turning point in our American history. There were soldiers representing the North and South, complete with cannon fire, lots of gunfire, and medics taking the “wounded” to the “hospital” tent. There were women watching, hoping their men would return from battle and carrying on with the gossip of the day.
The encampment was also an interesting part of this outing. There were many tents, many with people dressed in era clothing accomplishing various tasks of their day. The actors were very approachable and friendly, willing to share history with anyone who wanted to converse. The shops were full of items to purchase that were similar to the wares of days long ago, and some made by the shopkeepers. I enjoyed it very much…until the rain began…then it was time to go home, get dry, and get dinner going using my nice, modern appliances. Enjoy this snapshot of the day.
