Magic City Comic Con was keeping Miami’s convention center busy with packed parking lots, shuttle buses and had local police managing the traffic blocking both directions of the entrance.
Cosplay was everywhere with Anime as the mainstay, followed by gaming costumes, comics and movie/TV characters. Attendee camaraderie during the show and contests was impressive, accompanied by music, laughter and smiles, more than any convention I’ve been to in the last 18 months.
Comic artists and writers Tom Grummett, Carl Potts, Andy Lanning, Phil Jimenez, Jon Bogdanove and Dan Slott, as well as celebs like Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper and Barry Bostwick were there keeping crowds entertained. Fav of the day was Jason David Frank, fan friendly and always entertaining – people loved him!
MCCC is awarded a 4.5 thumbs up out of 5 for being a cosplay friendly convention, amazing weather, con crowd control and their free photo booths. The only negative was that ,massive throngs of people at the con made it literally impossible to see every costume at the event.
Check out Miami on July 4th weekend for Florida Supercon, the largest Comic Con in Miami and South Florida and will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center. If you do come, make travel and lodging arrangements early, Miami get full that time of year and last minute planning gets expensive.
