Twitter recently gave MIT’s Media Lab $10 million, to be paid over a five year span, to comb through every single public tweet ever created. MIT has named the project, Laboratory for Social Machines or LSM for short. LSM goal is to study patterns of social medias online communication. They then plan to create data visuals, mobile apps, and more based on the information learned from the project. Bloomberg says one main plans of the project is to “look into social media’s power to generate negative energy a lot better than it does positive energy.” For now only time will tell what ultimately comes from the project.
