Event: Heroes & Villains FanFest 2016 Approaches

In a few weeks’ time, Heroes & Villains FanFest will be returning to the San Jose Convention Center. HVFF, brought to us by Stephen Amell and James Frazier, will provide a bevy of guests from television’s biggest comic-themed shows, both Marvel and DC, as well as a few other big names.

HVFF is a very guest-heavy convention, and this year’s con has lined up some great ones. From “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “Legends of Tomorrow” it has Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen), John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn), Candice Patton (Iris West), Rick Cosnett (Eddie Thawne), and many, many more. Marvel’s getting some representation too, with “Agents of SHIELD” actors Clark Gregg (Coulson) and Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson), and “Guardians of the Galaxy” stars Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Gregg Henry (Grandpa) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin).

Last year brought in a few actors from “Once Upon a Time,” and it seems they’ve told their friends, as several actors from the show will be making their appearance, including Emilie de Ravin (Belle), Sean Maguire (Robin Hood), and Robbie Kay (Peter Pan). “The Walking Dead,” another TV adaptation of a hit comic, is also well represented with not only the aforementioned Michael Rooker (Merle), but also Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes).

Yet even after listing off all those guests, we’ve only scratched the surface of the guest list. The full list of guests can be seen here, but it might take a while to get through all of them. Autographs and pictures are not free, so fans may have to pick their favorites to splurge on, but all are worth meeting.

Of course, a convention needs more than just guests. Last year’s Heroes & Villains FanFest included a few activities, including a bounce house/zipline, and several panels throughout the weekend. This year’s boasts interactive “hero-style” games on the convention floor, as well as the Nocking Point San Jose Wine Mixer. (Note that the mixer is not free, but tickets can be purchased in advance through the Nocking Point website.)

Seeing as last year’s convention was a very satisfactory success, there’s reason to be excited for the upcoming one. Start preparing now, and let us know what you’re looking forward to for this year’s HVFF.

The Hungry Gamer Reviews Tzolk’in

One of the more highly anticipated games from 2020 was Pendulum, a game that had a core conceit of time, the longer the worker stays out on the board the more powerful it is. Whether or not that game worked is a different article, but the concept of time being part of the mechanic for the worker placement game had been done previously, and if popular opinion can be believed, had been done very well in Tzolk'in, a game which has been around since 2012.
