Now that the five rangers have been cast, the upcoming Power Rangers revival movie needs its villains, and Rita Repulsa has just been announced. The shrill-voiced, monster growing, mistress of evil will be portrayed by none other than Elizabeth Banks.
Banks confirmed this news on her Facebook page, proclaiming “After 10,000 years, I’m free!! It’s time to conquer Earth!” The official Power Rangers Movie instagram also announced it with this post:
Rita, known as Bandora in the Japanese “Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger,” was voiced by Barbara Goodson in the early seasons of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and portrayed in American footage by Carla Perez, and Julia Cortez in the 1995 Power Rangers movie. With her propensity for shouting, flare for sending giant monsters, and crazy outfit and hair in huge twin spikes, Rita is perhaps the most recognizable antagonist in Power Rangers history.
Elizabeth Banks is certainly the most high-profile actor cast for the film, and a fantastic choice for Rita Repulsa. Now fans are eagerly awaiting the moment they can hear her shout: “Magic wand, make my monster grow!”
