Film: RiffTrax Announces “Doctor Who: The Five Doctors” Live Show

During the most recent RiffTrax Kickstarter, they hinted at a super secret live show to come with “Samurai Cop” and “Beach Party.” Following the Kickstarter’s success, the movie was announced, and to our delight, it’s “Doctor Who: The Five Doctors.”

“The guys of RiffTrax (Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, of MST3K fame) take the TARDIS back to 1983 to give the full RiffTrax treatment to this well-loved feature-length episode with “RiffTrax Live: Doctor Who – The Five Doctors” in cinemas nationwide.
Someone is taking the Doctor’s past selves out of time and space, placing them in a vast wilderness – a battle arena with a sinister tower at its center. As the various incarnations of the Doctor join forces, they learn they are in the Death Zone on their home world of Gallifrey, where they must fight Daleks, Cybermen, Yeti, and a devious Time Lord traitor who is using the Doctor and his companions to discover the ancient secrets of Rassilon, the first and most powerful ruler of Gallifrey.”
This isn’t RiffTrax’s first time taking on anything “Doctor Who” related, having previously riffed the two “Doctor Who and the Daleks” movies, starring Peter Cushing. However, “The Five Doctors” is a different case, being a large multi-Doctor team-up special from the show itself (give or take Tom Baker, whose presence was just clips from the unaired episode “Shada”). And while RiffTrax is usually known for taking on legendarily bad movies in their live shows, a beloved geek icon like “Doctor Who” is still fair game.
You can check out a video from the guys at RiffTrax announcing the new show, direct from the TARDIS, below, and check it out in theaters on August 7th.
