As of this morning, the second Power Rangers trailer dropped. And it is morphinomenal. Finally we get to hear trademark statements like “It’s Morphin’ Time” and “Go, Go…” without the Power Rangers after.
But where this new film and trailer seems to be shining is it is not a retelling but something new in a good way. Before it was, “Teleport to us, five overbearing and overemotional humans” with Alpha 5 saying, “No. Not that, not teenagers.”
Eventually, the line would become “Five Teenagers with Attitude”.
Here, though, it is clear no one chose them but themselves. Five people in the wrong place at the right time.
Something comes with that sort of new angle. They can still respect the past while forging something new. There are some jokes about the insanity of this premise that audiences, as children, never thought to question, but a mom wants Kimberly to pee in a cup because someone took a trip and it was not the kind anyone else was expecting. And of course, the idea of a floating head giving 5 teenagers superpowers is unbelievable.
However, this movie looks like a fun ride that a fan and newcomer might enjoy. The only complaint from the two trailers is they might have given away too much. There as still questions to be asked though.
Will Lord Zed enter the fray? Will there eventually be a sixth Ranger? Looking for you Tommy Oliver. They said legions, so are there more rangers?
Well, who knows? Another worry is this movie might be rushed with such a short runtime of an 1 hour and 25 minutes.. Let’s hope it only leaves fans wanting more, not being rushed and disappointed.
If you missed the first trailer, check it out right here.
