After The Crappening, it seemed like it would be difficult for RiffTrax to top itself in Kickstarter-funded events, but they found away. To celebrate the 20th live show and the 10th year of RiffTrax, the comedic team has launched a new Kickstarter for RiffTrax Live: Time Chasers and a live show featuring a Mystery Science Theater 3000 reunion!
Not even a full day in and the Kickstarter has already reached over half of its $225,000 goal, but there’s still a ways to go. But if and when it’s completed, usual Riffers Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett will be joined by fellow MST3K alumni Trace Beaulieu (Dr. Clayton Forrester and an early voice of Crow T. Robot), Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank), Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), and Mike’s wife and fellow Riffer, Bridget Nelson.
Other veteran MST3K cast members have been invited, but have not yet responded.
The MST3K Reunion show will take place on June 28th, 2016, in Minneapolis, MN, where Mystery Science Theater 3000 began. Rather than a single movie, the live show will be another night of shorts, featuring educational short films riffed throughout the night.
Later on in the year, with the same funding, RiffTrax will hold a life riffing of Time Chasers. MST3K fans may recall that this is another movie once covered by the show, but RiffTrax has occasionally brought a new comedic light to old films they covered in the days up in the Satellite of Love.
There’s also mention of two more movies riffed live if the campaign earns enough, though what they will be has not been announced yet.
The rewards tiers start off with the usual prizes – free RiffTrax shorts and MP3s, a t-shirt at higher levels, and so on, but it also offers some unique prizes such as “Kevin will write a jingle for you” at $500 (and already down to its last seven as of this article’s writing) or the chance to write a script for the reunion show (already sold out).
