Every few months, RiffTrax will hold “RiffTrax Live,” in which they stream a live riffing of a movie of their choice to theaters nationwide (also in Canada). Previous live events have had them riffing on notably bad movies such as “Birdemic,” or even movies they’ve already taken on in “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” like when they dared to face “Manos: The Hands of Fate” again. They even attempted to riff on “Twilight,” but after a successful Kickstarter, the studios declined to provide them with the rights, so instead they went with “Starship Troopers.”
This time, their movie of choice is Sharknado, a TV movie known for… well, it’s a tornado full of sharks, so the Internet jumped on that immediately. There’s really nothing I can say aside from the name alone, that should tell you all you need to know about it.
So on July 10th, we can look forward to sharks, tornados, bad acting, bad CGI, and excellent jokes at the expense of all of the above. RiffTrax, hosted by Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett of Mystery Science Theater 3000, has always entertained with its live events, so I’ve already got my calendar marked.
