A new TV series based on Stephen King‘s (Carrie and It) fantasy epic ‘The Dark Tower‘ is on its way from Amazon Studios. Deadline has recently reported some casting news for the upcoming series which will feature the adventures of the gunslinger known as Roland Deschain.
In the upcoming series adaptation actor Sam Strike (The Dougherty Gang and Nightflyers) will be taking on the role of Roland Deschain and Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings and BlacKkKlansman) has been cast as Marten Broadcloak aka Randall Flagg aka The Man in Black. The report also goes on to reveal that this series will actually take place before the novels and will tell the origin story of “how Roland became a gunslinger and his first encounter with the villainous Man in Black” and how t will focus on “Roland Deschain, a young boy from a long line of ‘gunslingers’, and his ‘ka-tet’ comprised of Cuthbert Allgood, Alain Johns, Ileen Ritter and Jamie De Curry in addition to his girlfriend, Susan Delgado.”
We also find out that “Marten Broadcloak will serve as the series antagonist and his affair with Roland’s mother, Gabrielle, will factor heavily into the plot. Her affair incites Roland to pick up his guns in a search for Broadcloak and sets his father, Steven, on a mission to find him. At this time, no offers have been made to talent, but the cast should begin to assemble quickly.”
Fans of the series would no doubt remember that a movie version of ‘The Dark Tower’ was released in 2017 but the film didn’t exactly resonate with the fans which is a shame because Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) is pretty fantastic. For those wondering, it’s unlikely the film and the series will have any connection with each other. ‘The Dark Tower’ is developed by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead and The Shield), Akiva Goldsman (Doctor Sleep and Star Trek: Discovery), and Stephen King. At the moment they’re still casting and look to shoot in mid-April in Croatia, where the series is expected to film until late June.Deadline ]
