With all the fuss over Frozen, Disney fans were worried they’ve forgotten about Tangled. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider (or rather, Eugene) captured the hearts of viewers with their songs of dreams and at last seeing the light, and we may be seeing more of them with an animated show.
EW reports that Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi have signed on to reprise their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn in 2017. The show is set to take place between the end of Tangled (so we’ll have a short-haired Rapunzel) and the Tangled Ever After short film (which featured their wedding), featuring Rapunzel seeking to learn more about the world she missed while she was locked away in a tower.
Other returning characters include Pascal the chameleon, Maximus the horse (now captain of the guard), and the many thugs and dreamers from the Snuggly Ducking Pub. It will also introduce a new character: Cassandra, who serves as Rapunzel’s handmaiden and confidant.
Additionally, there will be a focus on Rapunzel’s relations with her family, who she has just recently met for the first time.
Those who loved the music in Tangled will be pleased to know that composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater will return as songwriters for the series.
Traditionally, animated features based off Disney films have been hit-or-miss, but the hits outnumber the misses, with shows like Aladdin being fondly remembered. With much of the original talent returning, we can remain optimistic and look forward to seeing where Rapunzel and Eugene’s adventures take them next.
