Season 5 of “Community” saw the cast reunite at Greendale Community College, and then later de-unite as several cast members left the show. But we’re still getting our sixth season (and fingers are still crossed for a movie), with new additions to the cast.
Paget Brewster, known for her part as Emily Prentiss on “Criminal Minds,” will join as Francesca “Frankie” Dart, a consultant hired to help improve the school. This is not her first time on “Community,” having played Debra Chambers, head of the school’s IT department, in the season 5 episode “Analysis of Cork-Based Networking,” though viewers may have missed her because they were too busy focusing on the Nathan Fillion cameo.
Keith David also joins as Elroy Patashnik, a retired scientist who, for some reason or another, is now at Greendale. He, too, had a minor role in “Community” in the past, providing the voice of the narrator in the 2012 “Pillows and Blankets” episode. However, he might be better recognized as the voice of Dr. Facilier in Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog,” as well as the Flame King in “Adventure Time,” and most recently the part of Sgt. Major Donald Cody in “Enlisted.”
Though Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, and Yvette Nicole Brown will not be returning to “Community,” the remaining members of the main cast remain. However, it is unlikely that Jonathan Banks and John Oliver will make appearances as Buzz and Professor Duncan, respectively, as they have prior obligations with other shows.
We’ll see how Brewster and David mesh with the show soon, as production for season 6 is set to begin this month, with 13 new episodes to appear on Yahoo in early 2015.
