Crazy Cultists Is A Fast-Paced Competitive Card Game

If you have not heard about the “quirky, fast-paced, competitive card game” Crazy Cultists, then you are in luck! We recently received a copy from Rocket House Games for review, and we have to say we were excited to play it!

Game Information:

Crazy Cultists • Out Now On Kickstarter

Crazy Cultists is a quirky, fast-paced, competitive card game where 3-6  players race against each other to summon The Dark One! Gain the Unholy Adversary’s favor and thwart your competition by unleashing terrible hexes on them or by giving them a good ol’ fashioned “Beelze-Beatdown”.
It’s a no-holds-barred free-for-fall fight to be the first to light all 5 candles in your pentagram and usher in a thousand years of darkness!
Number of Players: 3–6
Playtime: 30–45 Minutes
Ages: 10+
Designer: Jordan Devenport
Publisher: Rocket House Games

It’s all about being the cultist on top, so don’t be afraid to make a few enemies!

If you are looking for an easy to learn game and fun take on being a “cultist” then Crazy Cultists is for you. The game is exactly as they describe -fun, fast-paced, travel size, and a great price! Once you’ve played your first round you will want to play again. The game is very easy to set up. Each player receives a pentagram board and three cards, the candle tokens and rest of the cards go in the middle. Crazy Cultists leaves it to you to decide who goes first, we played rock paper scissors lizard Spock, and then play continues clockwise.

As at its core, Crazy Cultists is a competitive card game, and the mix of favor cards to gain favor with the Dark One, to the hijinks cards used to sabotage other players. The end goal is to be the first to get 5 candle tokens. You do this by gaining 10 favor points to earn one candle token, but if you have friends like us, that won’t is as easy as it sounds with the hijinks cards 😉 . Although the game easily fits into the “party game” genre it does a great job of having strategy and fun. With the variety of hijinks cards and depending on how you like to play, you might find yourself either hoarding cards or having to use them to keep other from gaining the favored of the Dark Ones first. Some of our rounds we played went by slower as we all played strategically on what hijinks and when we played them, then others it was a crazy fast-paced “take that” mode and couldn’t hold on to our cards long at all lol.

The Good:

The game’s art and components are perfect for the game’s theme. Crazy Cultists is perfect for when you are going out with a group of friends. The small footprint is ideal for a multiplayer travel game. The lore of the game leads to what can be either a serious take or a silly and fun take on summoning the Dark one. Every round we played we picked a different ancient one based on the Cthulhu Mythos and had some fun envisioning silly versions of the elder gods. Once you start playing, the game lives up to it’s  “Take-That”/”Screw-Your-Neighbor” catchphrase, in a fun way. If you have friends that like the “Party Game” genre then they will love Crazy Cultists.

The Not So Good:

Honestly, if we had to find something not so good, it would have to be that you need 3 players, but that is just nitpicking.

If you are looking for a fun, energetic game that you can take anywhere and play with a group of friends then Crazy Cultists is for you!

100% Awesome Official Dr Who Merchandise
  • Great price!
  • Game is exactly as advertised.
  • The art and components fit the theme perfectly.
  • Great size for travel and minimal footprint for how much fun you get!
  • The lore is great but lets you play games either silly or serious by using the term “Dark One” your game could be summoning a baby Cthulu dog or Beelzebub.
  • Easy to learn and easy to play, but can get a bit hectic in a fun fast-paced way.

"Hey Hungry! Wanna play a game? It has a fantasy theme and...oh you are already at the table and waiting." Guilty as charged.
